Food, sleep and everyday support

What NHS, NICE and FSA guidance actually says about food additives, sleep and supplements - and what it doesn't.

Can food and additives affect a child's behaviour?

Some children appear sensitive to certain things, and UK Food Standards Agency guidance notes that a group of artificial colours, alongside the preservative sodium benzoate, has been linked with increased hyperactivity in some children. Striova's food scanner flags these against FSA guidance so you can spot them — it is information to discuss with your GP, not a diagnosis or a claim that food causes ADHD.

How important is sleep?

Sleep and attention are closely linked, and short or irregular sleep can make daytime regulation harder for any child. Tracking sleep over time can reveal patterns worth discussing with a clinician. Striova can record sleep manually or from a connected wearable.

What about supplements like omega-3 or iron?

There is some research interest in areas such as omega-3 and iron (ferritin) status, but evidence is mixed and this is not a treatment for ADHD. Never start, stop or change supplements or medication without speaking to your GP or clinician — some can interact or be harmful at the wrong dose. Striova can help you keep a record to discuss with them.
